Phoenix artists to appeals court: Protect our expression from govt control

The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Jonathan Scruggs regarding the notice of appeal filed Tuesday with the Arizona Court of Appeals in Brush & Nib Studio v. City of Phoenix:
“No American should be threatened with jail time for disagreeing with the government. It’s unjust, unlawful, and unnecessary to force a painter, calligrapher, or a cake artist to create artistic expression against their will and intimidate them into silence. Like Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop, Breanna Koski and Joanna Duka are happy to create custom art for all people; they simply object to being forced to pour their heart, imagination, and talent into creating messages that violate their conscience.”
ADF attorneys also represent cake artist Jack Phillips and Masterpiece Cakeshop in another artistic freedom case, which is currently before the U.S. Supreme Court. The court will hear oral arguments in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission on Dec. 5.
